GaiaCare was set up to support farmers working in the different supply chains (cocoa, oil palm, and cashew) become environmentally conscious and adapt their livelihoods to the changing climate and its demands. We support mitigation and adaptation measures to climate change for farmer livelihoods and sustainability of their environment on which their survival depends. By working with companies, we strive to forge a partnership between suppliers and end-users that is prosperous for both or all parties involved. Our goal is mainly to restore degraded ecosystems through provision of nature-based solutions via community education, empowerment and supply of needed materials to aid restoration activities. We also facilitate community development approaches such as provision of water supply systems and partner companies as well to provide livelihood support options to farmers in these supply chains. We aim to work with companies within the supply chain to ensure their products are not (directly or indirectly) causing deforestation, and empower communities to adopt a rather climate-resilient approach to farming that ensures long-term returns on investment. This will in the long run also ensure continuous supply of raw materials needed for their businesses to thrive. To this end we support tree tenure engagements and approaches (registration) which ensures planting and ownership of trees planted by farmers.
We have added interests in ensuring green cities through planting of trees and use of clean and efficient energy systems. Our interests would like to see us partner with like-minded organisations to work on similar approaches.
MISSION
Our mission is to support organisations, farmers, companies, etc. in becoming environmentally sustainable by operationalizing sustainability plans into real world tangible results. We aim to ensure that the environment and nature that our various supply chains depend on, remains protected and protective over the long term.
